[Day 4/7] Boom...VIRAL...
Let's face it:
You could have the best video idea in the world.
But if your script is about as exciting as a lecture on the history of cardboard…
You're gonna lose your audience faster than I can finish this plate:
So let me take you through the theory behind scriptwriting,
and how I have been getting more millions of views than I can count my fingers + toes. (21M?)
Introducing the "Hook, Retain, Reward" Formula
When it comes to scripting videos that keep people watching,
there's a simple formula that works like a charm.
Here's how it works:
1 - The Hook: Grab attention (where most beginners fail)
2 - Retain: Keep em from scrolling away (change things up)
3 - The Reward: Give something away or ask your viewers for a favor.
Let's break it down, shall we?
The Hook
You've got 3 seconds to grab your viewer's attention,
and sometimes even less.
Because this is 99% of people today when an unexpected ad appears👇
That's it, they're gone, 3 views, yay!
So, you gotta start with a bang.
And no,
I don't mean literally starting your video with an explosion,
(although that would be pretty cool).
I mean starting with a hook that makes people go,
"Ooh, I gotta see where this is going."
Here are some examples:
- "Here's how I [insert amazing result] in [insert short amount of time]..."
- "Stop doing [insert common mistake] instead..."
- "If you're not [insert action], you're ruining your [insert desired outcome]..."
The key is to tease the juicy value they're about to receive,
or the problem they're about to solve.
Make them curious, make them intrigued, make them want to keep watching,
more than that…
“Make it trigger FOMO by scrolling away!”
It is also highly important to combine a good audio hook,
with a visually pleasing one.
Email is kinda the wrong format to teach editing let’s be real,
but…
Spend the majority of your time editing on the hook!
See it as a bit of an MR Beast thumbnail screaming "click me" on YouTube
but for the first 3 seconds of your video,
I typically even drag up the colors, brightness, something moving + the script hook,
and this is the key to making it work!
Retain
Okay, so you've got their attention.
Now what?
Well, now it's time to keep them engaged with some rapid-fire value.
WhAt Do YoU mEaN bY tHaT?
- I mean delivering value faster than a speeding bullet.
- I mean switching up your scenes faster than a chameleon changes colors.
- I mean making sure every sentence in your video is packed with so much value, it's like a suitcase that's about to burst.
But here's the thing…
It's not just about the editing,
(although it helps).
It's about making sure your video has genuine value,
if I have not mentioned it enough by now…But it is the truth!
Let's take something quite worthless:
eeemm,
a hamster,
you know the little thing every parent bought for their kids,
meanwhile, they ended up dying from all sorts of things,
over-eating, microwaves, I've heard all the stories…
poor little thing.
Anyway…
No matter how fancy you make the cage for it,
the golden wheel, you name it (meaning your editing),
you can't get passed the fact that it still will just do its thing (your value).
-Realized this was a sad horrible reference but hopefully you get the point.
The C T A!!!
Alright,
so you've hooked 'em in and kept 'em engaged with your dense value.
Now it's time to sink your message in,
with a strong call to action!
And you've got two options:
1 - Ask them to follow you. (But only if your video delivered some serious value.
Otherwise,
it's like asking for a second date while screwing up the first one.
2 - Ask them to comment on your video. This is a great way to get even more engagement and build a community around your content.
Plus, if they like the free stuff you're giving away,
they'll be more likely to want to work with you in the future.
It's a win-win!
Putting It All Together
Alright, my content-creating compadre,
it's time to put all these pieces together,
and create some binge-worthy content.
Remember to:
1 - Start with a bang
2 - Deliver rapid value
3 - End with a strong call-to-action
And if you're feeling stuck,
just remember:
even the greatest content creators started somewhere.
(me with Minecraft clips 30 views 50% from my mom)
No one is born with a camera in their hand and a script in their head,
so I don't want to hear any excuses you are telling yourself right now.
It is about learning, practicing, and continuing to create.
And that's what I want you to do, too.
Mr beast has created content for 12 years
Pewdiepie for 14,
sad for them to not have this;).
Now go forth and create some content if you have not already.
Learn as you have now done, apply, create, analyze, and repeat.
I thought it was never going to work for me,
but 99% quit before posting their 10th video,
“You've got it if you want it”
Now don't forget to tune in tomorrow…
Where we'll be diving into the secret to saving yourself these 12 years 👆,
through something way too overlooked.
Until then,
keep being the awesome content creator that you are.
I see your little smile;)

P.S. Scriptwriting for a beginner is a mess,
I built this custom free GPT to help you get going using this exact framework you have now learned;)
