[Day 6/7] "1,000X your views!!!"
“Here is the quick fix to get 1000x your views”
If you see this👆
UNFOLLOW!!!
(unless you have 0 views guess the video won’t help anyway).
This is a strong hook that no one can deliver on,
so let me break down how things work…
The Two Metrics That Actually Matter
When it comes to video performance,
two metrics reign supreme:
-View percentage
-Watch time
View percentage is how many % of your video your viewer watches.
And watch time is the amount of time each person on average watches.
These two metrics are like the king and queen of the video performance castle.
They're the ones that the algorithm looks at,
to determine whether your video is worthy of being shown to more people.
Likes, comments, and shares are great, don't get me wrong.
They're like the royal court of the castle.
But while these engagement metrics are important,
they're not the be-all and end-all of video performance.
The real key to success?
Getting people to actually watch your video, from beginning to end.
The Secret to a High View Percentage
So, how do you get people to actually watch your video,
instead of scrolling past it faster than a cheetah on a caffeine drip?
It all comes down to your hook.
Your hook is the first few seconds of your video that grab people's attention,
and make them want to keep watching,
(which I hope you know by now).
It's like the bait on a fishing line.
If it's not juicy enough,
the fish (aka your viewers) are gonna swim right by.
Take a look at this view retention graph:
Graph showing view retention.
See that big drop-off in the beginning?
That's a telltale sign of a weak hook.
People clicked on the video,
but they quickly lost interest and scrolled away.
(only 35% left after 3 seconds)
On the other hand…
If your hook is strong,
you'll see a much more gradual decline in view retention.
People will stick around longer because they're interested in what you have to say👇
We have already covered hooks in the scripting one,
but…
If you anytime go back and analyze your top videos you will see a more linear curve,
a dip means something bad in the video that needs to be addressed.
Now,
let's talk about another secret weapon in your view-boosting arsenal:
Captions.
Did you know that 85% of reels are watched without sound?
That means if your video relies solely on audio to get your message across,
you're missing out on a huge chunk of potential viewers!
But if you add captions to your video…
Suddenly you're making it accessible to everyone,
whether they're watching on the toilet at work,
(don't deny it, we've all been there),
or scrolling through their feed on the subway.
Plus:
Captions have the added benefit of making your video more engaging.
When people can read along with what you're saying,
they're more likely to stick around and watch the whole thing.
So, if you want to boost your views,
make sure you're adding captions to all your videos.
It's a small step that can make a big difference.
Now, let's talk about a common misconception in the world of video views:
Hashtags and tags.
I see a lot of creators spending hours researching the perfect “hashtags and tags” to add to their videos,
thinking it's gonna be the “magic bullet” that skyrockets their views.
Sure…
If you're just starting out and you have zero followers,
hashtags and tags can help you get a little bit,
by pushing the content to the right people.
But once you've got even a small following,
they become pretty much useless!
Don’t let this be your excuse like most beginners do…
It is your content that is the issue🫣
The algorithm is much more interested in how people are interacting with your video,
(remember those view percentage and watch time metrics we talked about?),
rather than it is in the hashtags and tags you use.
So…
Instead of spending hours researching the perfect hashtags and tags,
focus on creating content that actually resonates with your audience.
That's what's gonna get you the views you are looking for.
The Importance of Thumbnails
Last but not least,
let's talk about thumbnails…
Your thumbnail is like the book cover of your video.
It's the first thing people see when they're scrolling through their Explorer page,
and it's what's gonna make them decide whether or not to click on your video.
Take a look at this screenshot:
👆See how I just beat all the competition…
That's because it’s designed to stand out and grab your attention.
So, if you want to boost your views,
you need to make sure your thumbnails are on point.
Here are a few tips:
-Use bright, contrasting colors that stand out from the rest of the feed
-Include text that teases the value of your video
-Use close-up shots of faces or interesting visuals
Putting It All Together
Alright, let's recap what we've learned today:
1 - View percentage and watch time are the two metrics that matter most when it comes to video performance.
2 - Your hook is again the key to getting people to actually watch your video.
3 - Captions make your video accessible to everyone and boost engagement.
4 - Hashtags and tags are overrated and won't make much of a difference in the long run.
5 - Thumbnails are the book cover of your video and need to be attention-grabbing and accurate.
Focus on these key elements,
and you'll be well on your way to skyrocketing your views,
and growing your audience like never before.
But remember…
Similar to how there is no pill to get a 6 pack,
there's no quick fix when it comes to video views.
It takes time, effort,
and a whole lot of experimentation,
to figure out what works best for your audience.
Not as fun to hear but it is the truth.
